About
The first ever basketball academy in Punjab (India) was inaugurated on 20-08-2003 by the then sponsor Mr. Harjinder Singh Dhanoa, an NRI from UK. (formerly Parasrampur, Jalandhar district).
This academy was set up with the support of Mr. Harjinder Singh Dhanoa, sponsoring the recurring expenditure. The Punjab State Govt. (Directorate of Sports, Punjab) provided infrastructure such as dormitory accommodation for lodging the players, and basketball grounds (one indoor court and two outdoor courts) and multi-gym for conditioning training. The Punjab Basketball Association is providing all technical services such as training and playing equipment, selection of talents, providing competition opportunities, making boarding arrangements, providing playing kit and giving affiliation to the Academy.
Objectives
The main objective of the Academy is to develop tall talented basketball players of young age ( 14 to 18 years) from Punjab and neighbouring states into international level players.
The Academy also serves as a center of excellence for talented players who have learned basketball earlier.
Achievements
The Academy has developed several international players till date :- Talwinderjit Singh, Jagdeep Singh, Yadwinder Singh, Snehpal Singh, Dilawar Singh, Sukhvir Singh Dhillon, Satnam Singh Bhamara, Amritpal Singh, Amjyot Singh, Arshpreet Singh Bhullar, Gurbaz Singh, Princepal Singh, Kiranjit Kaur, Harjit Kaur, Kamaljit Kaur, Anmolpreet Kaur and Manmeet Kaur.
Many other players have represented India in under 14, under 16 years and under 19 age groups in Asia and the World competitions.
Many more young tall players have participated in the National Championships.
