ABOUT LUDHIANA BASKETBALL ACADEMY :
The first ever basketball academy in Punjab (INDIA) with tripartite arrangements was inaugurated on 20-08-2003 by the main sponsor Mr. Harjinder Singh Dhanoa, an NRI from Parasrampur (Jalandhar district).
This academy is set up with the support of Mr. Harjinder Singh Dhanoa, sponsoring the recurring expenditure, Punjab State Govt. (Directorate of Sports, Punjab) providing infrastructure such as dormitory accommodation for lodging the players, and basketball grounds (one in door court and two outdoor courts) and multi-gym for conditioning training. Punjab Basketball Association is providing all technical services such as providing training and playing equipment, selection of talents, providing competition opportunities by giving affiliation to the academy making boarding arrangements, providing playing kit etc.
As the academy expenses towards boarding/diet of players, coach's salary are sponsored by Baba Lodhiana Sports Society Jalandhar, it is named "Ludhiana Basketball Academy".
OBJECTIVES OF THE LUDHIANA BASKETBALL ACADEMY :
Main Objective of the academy was to develop tall talented basketball players of young age between16 to 18 years from Punjab and neighbouring states into international level players.
Though initially, academy was stated with the aim to serve as a center of excellence of talented players who had learned basketball earlier, at present, academy is aiming to train and develop novices, who have chances of growing into tall players, due to genetic factors (Parental stature).
ACHIEVEMENTS OF LUDHIANA BASKETBALL ACADEMY:
Within two years academy has developed 5 international players. The highlight of our achievement is preparing two young (18 year old) and tall players who represented India in Asian competitions for Seniors besides excelling in Senior and Junior National Championships.
Other player under 16 years have also represented the country.
Some more young tall players have participated in National Championships and are being groomed to reach the level of international standard.
One tall and well built girl who was a beginner, has also been developed into junior international player within 2 years.
